Manifestors Are Energy Types
Human Design Manifestor Aura Types
The Record Needs to Be Set Straight: Manifestors Are Energy Types
By Dr. LaVeena Archers
Education Director, Jovian Archive — Ra Uru Hu's Source of The Human Design System
Something is spreading like wildfire through the Human Design education space that needs to be addressed directly, with documentation, with my expert explanation and without softening.
A certification program someone on LinkedIn asked me about is actively teaching the error that Manifestors are a non-energy type. The creator (with no certifications of her own) claims to have certified over 35,000 students. It runs every eight weeks. Google picked it up as a reference. So did Grok (and whatever other AIs).
This is not a minor interpretive difference. It is a factual error about one of the most fundamental mechanics in the Human Design System — and it is being industrially scaled.
I am writing this article because Manifestors deserve to know the truth about who they are. And because every practitioner who learns this incorrectly will carry it forward into their own clients, their own programs, and eventually their own certifications. The error compounds. The harm compounds with it.
This is DEVESTATING conditioning to a being who is already misunderstood due to the nature of its rarity.
Let’s explore what Ra Uru Hu taught, in his own words, from the primary source materials.
A note about Aura Types: Types were not assigned to Ra by the Voice; Types and SubTypes are mechanical and can be experimented with to test validity. Remember, you CAN be your own Authority; it's YOUR experiment.
What the Certification Is Mis-Teaching
If you have ever seen a diagram titled "The 5 Energy Types" that explicitly places Manifestors in the "Non-Energy Type" bracket alongside Projectors and Reflectors. The same slide groups only Manifesting Generators and Generators as "Energy Types."
A subsequent slide titled "Energy vs Non-Energy" uses a bodygraph visual to map this division, with "Projectors, Manifestors & Reflectors" labeled together on the undefined sacral side, and "Manifesting Generators & Generators" on the defined sacral side. The implication — stated visually if not always verbally — is that the energy type / non-energy type distinction maps directly onto Sacral definition.
It does not. This conflates two entirely separate axes of the Human Design typology.
And Ra said so explicitly, repeatedly, across multiple lecture series.
The Two Human Design Aura Axes
Ra maintained two distinct classification systems simultaneously throughout his teaching career. Understanding why requires holding both in mind at once.
Axis 1: Energy Type vs. Non-Energy Type
This axis divides humanity into those who have consistent motor-driven energy available to either generate or act upon the world, and those who do not.
Ra was unambiguous: there are exactly two auric energy types — Generators (including Manifesting Generators) and Manifestors.
From Design Concepts:
"The Manifestor and the Generator represent very much the energy dynamic of the planet. That is, they are the two so-called energy Types. Obviously together they represent nearly 80% of humanity. It means that we live in a deeply energized plane, or here on this plane to be busy and to do our stuff."
From Manifestor Manifesto, Lecture 3:
"One of the things that I tried to get across last week is understanding that the deepest, deepest conditioning in a Manifestor's life is Generator conditioning. We have a sense of them, after all. We are the energy Types, the two of us."
Note that Ra is speaking as a Manifestor in that second quote. He says we — meaning Manifestors and Generators together — are the energy types.
Axis 2: Sacral vs. Non-Sacral
This is a separate axis entirely, and this is where the confusion originates. Manifestors, Projectors, and Reflectors all share one structural feature: an undefined Sacral center. Ra grouped them together on this basis.
From The Complete Guide to the Human Design System:
"Manifestors and Projectors and Reflectors are non-Sacral beings; three types that are non-Sacral beings. It is something that those three types have in common; their lack of the Sacral. And they all suffer from the same affliction, an affliction due to that openness that obviously operates in them differently because they are different types. But the affliction is the same: never knowing when enough is enough."
Three types are non-Sacral. But being non-Sacral does not make a type non-energy. These are not synonyms. Ra treated them as separate qualities on separate axes, and he stated so directly.
Ra Uru Hu, creator of the Human Design System, Explicitly Named
Manifestors as Energy Types
(While Non-Sacral because Sacral definition changes the Aura to open and Enveloping instead of closed and repelling)
The most important passages in the source record are the ones where Ra holds both statements simultaneously — Manifestors are energy types and they are non-Sacral. He never treated these as contradictions. He treated them as the defining paradox of the Manifestor.
From The Complete Guide to the Human Design System:
"Let's shift for a moment and think about the Manifestor; an energy Type. Yet, it's an energy Type that doesn't have a defined [Sacral]; something totally different in that sense."
He calls them an energy type in the same sentence where he notes the absence of the Sacral. Not an either/or. Both, simultaneously.
From Manifestor Manifesto, Lecture 5:
"recognize how important it is physically for you to rest. This is one of the most important things for non-sacral beings, despite the fact that we are an energy Type, still to recognize who are non-sacral; we need to conserve our energy. We need to use it well. We need to conserve it. We need to rest."
Again: "despite the fact that we are an energy Type." Ra is explicitly acknowledging the apparent paradox — Manifestors need rest like non-Sacral beings, yet they remain energy types. The rest requirement is a feature of being non-Sacral. The energy type designation is a feature of having motor-to-Throat connection. Both are true.
From Manifestor Manifesto, Lecture 4:
"Manifestors, like Projectors, like Reflectors, because we are non-sacral, it's very easy for us to be exhausted despite the fact that we're an energy Type. We have a different way that we're intended to be in this world. We're certainly not here to do the work of Generators."
From Manifestor Manifesto, Lecture 1:
"again, we're an energy Type. We tend to be very powerful in the way in which we work. The moment we get into the responding business is the moment we're really in trouble."
The Mechanic: What Actually Makes a Manifestor
The structural reason Manifestors are energy types is the motor-to-Throat connection. Generators have the Sacral connected (directly or indirectly) to the Throat. Manifestors have a different motor — Heart, Solar Plexus, Root, or Spleen — connected to the Throat without Sacral involvement.
From A Guide to the Channels:
"This is a manifesting channel because it is a motor (solar plexus) connected to the throat. If someone had only this channel defined in their design, they would be a manifestor... Out of the 36 channels that we have there are only three channels that are pure manifestors; 35/36, 12/22, 45/21 — and one manifesting generator channel, the 20/34."
"The moment you have a motor connected to the throat, it wants to run."
Ra described his own chart this way in Rave Anatomy II:
"I am an ego Manifestor, and therefore I have a strongly defined ego and I have a totally open Sacral Center. And it's fascinating for me the difference between what it is to have the Heart Center as a motor, which is really unique and to have this incredible force here as the driving force."
The Heart Center as a motor. Not the Sacral. That motor-to-Throat connection is what makes Ra an energy type. The open Sacral is what makes him non-Sacral. Both statements are true. Neither cancels the other.
Who Are the Non-Energy Types?
Ra reserved this designation for Projectors and Reflectors only — never Manifestors.
From The Complete Guide to the Human Design System, describing a Projector child:
"you're dealing with a child that does not have easy access to being able to express its energy itself. It is a non-energy type and is going to be very dependent."
And directly:
"It is most difficult for the Projector, truly...Projectors, 22% of humanity, are a non-energy Type. They are non-Sacral."
Note the structure: Projectors are a non-energy type and they are non-Sacral. Both stated separately. For Projectors, the two happen to coincide. For Manifestors, they do not.
From Design Concepts, Ra described the distinction in terms of how living one's Design operates differently for energy and non-energy types:
"Whereas living the Design for the energy Types is something that is there to be leapt into instantaneously and immediately, because it's possible. [There is a] different way in which the process works...you can see thematically in non-energy Types that living their Design actually means studying in many ways, being educated in their Design."
And on Reflectors:
"And like the Projector, it is a theme of non-energy Types that knowledge is essential for them. They have to learn."
Projectors and Reflectors. Not Manifestors.
From Manifestor Manifesto, Lecture 1, Ra was explicit that Manifestors should not look to Projectors as their reference class:
"Don't be confused about what you see out there in the world...particularly Projectors as an example, because as a non-energy Type it's even more difficult for them to play the Manifestor and try to deal with all of that."
Ra is contrasting Projectors as non-energy types against Manifestors in this passage. The distinction was intentional and consistent.
Why This Error Exists and Why It Keeps Spreading
The confusion has a traceable origin. There is pedagogical language around "non-Sacral" types being grouped for certain energy management discussions. When teachers are not trained in authentic Human Design or take shortcuts, trained in or adjacent frameworks, try to teach general Human Design whilst not having enough practical experience (read: other than book/class learned information), they can commonly make the mistake of carrying this grouping into a context where it doesn't belong — applying the non-Sacral label as if it were synonymous with non-energy type.
It is not. Non-Sacral describes the absence of a consistently defined Sacral center, which is an incredibly powerful energy resource. Every gate is a gate of Power. Non-energy type describes the absence of consistent motor-driven energy available for initiating action or responding with that raw power in the world.
Manifestors have motors (any one of three) — they are simply motors other than the Sacral.
That distinction is the entire point of the Manifestor type.
The other contributing factor is the slide format itself. When you put five types into a diagram and draw two brackets (one labeled "Energy Type" and one labeled "Non-Energy Type") you are making a binary claim. If Manifestors are taught in the wrong bracket, every person who sees that slide absorbs the error visually, intuitively, and without question. It looks authoritative. It looks clean.
Thirty-five thousand certifications later, the error has a life of its own.
What This Costs Manifestors
This is not an academic dispute. The misclassification in certification trainings, authorized or not, has real consequences for real people.
A Manifestor who is told they are a non-energy type is being told, implicitly, that they are like a Projector — that they should wait, conserve, operate from a posture of passivity, and manage their energy as a scarce resource that belongs primarily to others. This is Generator conditioning applied to Manifestors through a different mechanism. Ra identified Generator conditioning as the deepest wound in the Manifestor's life.
Manifestors have motor energy. They are built to initiate. Their strategy (to inform before acting) exists not because they lack power, but because their power moves so quickly and so independently that it disrupts the aura field of everyone around them. The informing strategy is about managing impact, not about compensating for weakness.
A Manifestor who believes they are non-energy will underestimate their own initiating force. They will wait for invitations that Ra never said they needed. They will interpret their exhaustion (a real feature of being non-Sacral) as evidence that they are fundamentally low-energy beings rather than as a signal to rest and return to power. They will be confused about why the Projector model doesn't fit their experience.
This matters especially now. We are moving toward 2027 and the planetary shift that Ra described at length in the Rave Cosmology series. The Manifestor's role in that transition is significant. Getting their type wrong (at scale, in certifications, in AI search results) is not a small error.
A Note on Standards
Though she ignored my Instagram offer to give her supportive materials to support her work, I want to be fair to this mistaken teacher on one point: she acknowledges Ra Uru Hu as the founder of Human Design in her program materials, and she does so respectfully. The error in her slides does not appear to be intentional distortion. After researching, it appears to be something she was taught, by someone who was also taught it incorrectly.
Her teacher Becca Francis was receptive and grateful when I reached out with this information. That matters. The Human Design education ecosystem is full of people who genuinely care about the material and about their students.
But caring genuinely is not sufficient when you are certifying tens of thousands of practitioners without having a certification yourself. At that scale, accuracy is a responsibility.
"This is what I was taught" is not a defense when the primary source materials are accessible, publicly documented, and in some cases verbatim transcribed, as the passages in this article demonstrate.
The worst lie is a suppressed truth
This includes when you find something that Ra said in his later years of refining the teaching (which took his lifetime to explore) that contradicts what he said or you think he said or what you mistakenly taught that you now need to clear up, even if it’s hard or embarrassing.
Honesty and disclosure is important, and censorship leads to inaccuracies which perpetuates false narratives.
Inaccurate teaching has led to all kinds of lies flying around and some of the worst cult accusations of Human Design that I see on the internet. This is one of the reasons why I personally held a series of free human design webinars for my own students when I found out that there were flaws and errors with the way I learned and later taught HD before I matured as a teacher (I am in my third seven-year deconditioning cycle).
The Channel of Money, A Design of a Materialist
Here’s a short list of what I was taught that is commonly mistaught:
“Hanging gates are defined” (no, definition is in the channel, hanging gates are not defined)
“Hanging gates in undefined centers are the not-self” (no, they protect us from the not-self of the center)
“21-45 is tribal circuitry” (the voice said it’s pure WA/OC16) and to use the term Management for this channel of Money in an individual is incorrect (that term applies in a large group only, Ra says its a mistake to use it otherwise)
“Manifestors are Innovators” (no, Ra never labeled them after the large group generator channel 60-3; they are Initiators)
“Projectors have to wait to be Invited to speak” (no, Projectors have a two-part strategy - wait to be Recognized and Invited for the big life decisions. Then use your Authority and motivation to know instantly if something is right for you in the moment)
The standard is simple: if you are teaching the Human Design System, teach what Ra said and source it. If you are teaching a derivative, adaptation, or personal synthesis, name it as such and teach it on its own terms. Both can and do coexist. What cannot is teaching a derivative under the banner of the original system without disclosing the difference — especially at 30K+ professionals certification scale.
I personally feel everyone has a right to teach what they know from their own experience and in their own way from their own research; but making serious mistakes and not correcting or re-educating whole generations of professionals is when you do is not responsible.
This is why we sign a contract that we will continue training in official IHDS courses every year when we become a professional, which I have done every year, repeatedly. IHDS Professionals maintain their education contractually.
Ra wanted teachers to be 7 years into their experiment before becoming teachers. Creating a Certification and teaching a deep system when you don’t have a solid human design foundation of your own to stand on… gets you to make mistakes like the ones I have brought up here. I’m not claiming superiority - I’ve made tons of mistakes. It’s how we learn and it’s what leads to growth and material success.
Call to Action:
To anyone to whom this article applies to:
Please correct the Session 1 slides and any subsequent materials that place Manifestors in the non-energy type category. The documentation is in this article.
To practitioners who trained to treat Manifestors as Non-Energy:
Please review this material. If you have been teaching this to clients, you now have what you need to correct it. The Ra quotes cited here are verbatim, sourced, and available through Jovian Archive's official materials.
To anyone who teaches Human Design:
The energy type / non-energy type distinction is one of the most consequential in the entire system. It shapes how a person understands their initiating force, their rest requirements, their relationship to the energy of others, and their place in the world. Get it from the source. Ra said it clearly, repeatedly, and in direct terms. The Human Design System has standards; yes it’s your experiement but if you’re certifying people, be responsible. You don’t want the karma of misleading people.
A note about Aura Types:
Types were not given to Ra by the Voice, but are a function of mechanics. Remember its YOUR experiement.
Summary:
The Human Design Aura Types
The Four Foundational Building Blocks of Humanity. There are MANY subtypes!
Energy Types = Generators + Manifestors. Both have motor power that drives them to act upon the world. Together, they represent approximately 80% of humanity.
Non-Energy Types = Projectors + Reflectors. No consistent motor-driven energy of their own; designed to work with and guide or reflect the energy of others.
Non-Sacral Types = Manifestors + Projectors + Reflectors. All three share an undefined Sacral center and the accompanying risk of not knowing when enough is enough. This is a real and important grouping — but it is not the same as non-energy type.
Manifestors are the Initiators: they are energy types without the Sacral. Ra called this "totally different." They have motor energy that is real and powerful, but it is not the sustainable generative life-force energy of the Sacral in response. They need rest like non-Sacral beings. They initiate like energy types. Both are true. Neither cancels the other.
This is what Ra taught. It is documented. It is available. And it is what every Human Design System practitioner (IHDS certified or otherwise) owes their clients the responsibility to know.
